The Girl With The Pearl Earring

Replica of Vermeer's Famous Painting

In honor of Vermeer I replicated his "Girl with a Pearl Earring" or more well know as "The Girl With The Pearl Earring". I remember being a child and seeing the movie based off of this and being so amazed by it, which has kind of given me the motive to replicate this beautiful piece. I believe I did pretty well on the overall composition of the piece. I think the added blue and brown of the background completed it pretty nicely so it wasn't bland and I really enjoyed how well I did the clothing and the earring. Though, I feel the skin and the lips could have been done better, I feel it just doesn't live up to the beauty of the original in that area. My peers particularly liked how I did the clothing, I even had one peer say that it looked really realistic. And I agree, I feel the clothing is my favorite part of the piece. I feel I did pretty well with the portions, though I feel the eyes are a little off. And I love how the dark background emphasis her well. Over all I believe it has great harmony and is a wonderful piece.

Starry Night

A Dedication To Van Gogh's "Starry Night"

There's no need to really explain what this famous painting is of seeing as almost everyone already knows of "Starry Night". I choose this very well known masterpiece to replicate thanks to my teacher. In her classroom she has a large replica of it done by a student she had in the past and she has used it to remind us of the principles and elements of design, which has given me a fondness of the painting. For example, the movement within the sky showing rhythm and contrast with the bright yellow stars and light hued church. Even though this piece took me the shortest time to paint then any others, only four hours and thirty minutes, I find it my favorite. I love how bright the colors are and how altogether the composition is very well done, but I think the houses could have been better proportioned seeing as they look a little off in my eyes. I actually painted this all day long during an art show and it was a huge ego boost to hear so many compliments from people along with all the 'ooo's and 'ahh's from the children who walked by, I feel that's why I did so well on this one was because the encouragement everyone was giving me.

Lady With The Umbrella

A dedication to John Singer Sargent

This painting was inspired by Sargent's "Lady With The Umbrella". I was lead to paint this gorgeous piece because of my fondness for Victorian and Edwardian styles as well as just how the original stood out to me in general. I'm particularly fond of how well the dress turned out, the flow looks absolutely gorgeous with a immense feeling of movement that brings your eyes up the legs and through her curves to lead to her face. Now her face I am not particularly sentimental about, it doesn't quiet feel right in how its not blended but that makes it stand out. I love the overall harmony and peace the art work portrays. This is one of my favorites from what I've painted so far, I feel it expresses everything I want it to and I'm overjoyed with how it turned out. I have not had many critiques from my fellow students but words of encouragement and enjoyment. Never the less, I feel its worthy enough to be a good replica of the orginal.

Flowers For Theresa

For a Beautiful Women

This floral lady was inspired by Theresa Fractale, a model I follow on Instagram. Her unique style and flawless appearance has piqued my interest since the first time I came across her account. I created this piece in hopes to share her beauty with anyone who gazes upon it, to ensnare the viewer in a feeling of amazement, like the one I felt the first time I witnessed her beauty. I've had a few peers come up to me to express their love for the watercolor piece. The feedback has made me feel elated that I was able to grasp the emotions I aimed to express. Though in my opinion, I see room for improvement. For example, I think the nose could have been done better rather than the mess it is and the flowers of the hair are also very messy unlike the ones in the background. For the composition of this piece I used hues of pink, in the flowers around her face, to create unity and contrast to her skin. I also used pattern, along with contrast, to make her hair stand out more. Having created what I hope is a exceptional composition for this watercolor woman.
